Day 5 (June 10) - Awesome!

Unbelievable! We saw so much in Yosemite today. Amazing! First, we went up to Mariposa Grove to take a look at the huge Sequoia trees, including the largest one, Grizzly Giant. Then we traveled down into the valley. There was one amazing site after another. We saw Bridalvail Falls, El Capitan, the Upper Falls, Half Dome and many other beautiful sites. We were also lucky enough to see a couple brown bear cubs. The weather was perfect and so was the traffic. Apparently, early June is the time to visit Yosemite.

We left the park after lunch and drove the back way into Turlock. Along the way, we passed through what was originally an old west town, called Coulterville. This is the home of the oldest bar/grill in California (1851). It looks much like it did back then. Tonight, we are staying at a new Comfort Inn in Turlock. We stumbled upon it in the travel coupon guide that we picked up in Oakhurst before leaving this morning.

We'll take our time getting around tomorrow and head for San Francisco. I haven't checked the mileage yet, but it shouldn't take us very long.

  1. I loved the picture of your family on the mountain!!! It was beautiful!!! That will make a great 8x10 when you get home.
(I tried to show people at school your pictures, but the pictures must be blocked.)
I hope you continue to have a great trip!!

  2. We saw bears at Yellowstone and it really was one of the highlights of the trip. We needed a better camera to get a good picture, but still got a few.

  3. Aimee - Allen may or may not have been asked, but he was going to unblock Picasa from the Webwasher filter and hopefully that would take care of it. Yes. We will probably have a few 8x10 pics out of this trip. later

Tim - I ended up purchasing the Nikon D5000 after doing a little more research. You probably saw larger bears on your trip. Those we saw were young. Took in San Francisco today and did NOT spend two hours on the Golden Gate Bridge as you did. Thank goodness.

  4. I wondered about the D5000. It sounded like a pretty nice camera. Close to the D90 for less money. It's probably what I would have bought if i was buying one now.
The bears we saw were black and not real big either. Didn't get to see grizzly bears.
